Raleigh, N.C. FloLogic, Inc., a Raleigh, North Carolina technology and marketing firm is saving its clients thousands of dollars with its leak detection technology, FloLogic System 3.0, for installation in homes and commercial buildings. The FloLogic System is succinctly known as “the circuit breaker for your home plumbing system”®
Many of the installations for the FloLogic System are in homes that have suffered a water leak and the owner was determined to find a way to protect the property from a loss from another leak. Others are mandated by their homeowner insurance provider as a condition of insurance going forward!
“My wife and I were in Florida only four days when we were notified that we had 28,000 gallons of water damaging two floors of our home,” said R. Brown, of Lititz, Pa. “We were out of our home more than two months during restoration,” he added.
After the restoration, Brown installed the FloLogic System. Almost immediately after installing the System in January of 2010, the valve sensed a toilet leak, and shut down the water intake to the house. “I just wanted to thank you for your product and responsive service,” Brown told Chuck DeSmet, the CEO of FloLogic. “I can rest easily on our next venture away from home knowing that FloLogic is looking after our water supply.”
The FloLogic technology is unlike its competitors in using an advanced patented technology for sensing water flow inside of the water pipes. Most other detection systems are based upon sensing moisture, a shortcoming that allows leaks to go undetected for long periods of time.
Dr. F. Hale, PE, ScD, Emeritus Professor of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at NC State University, in Raleigh, N. C. said that he had done a thorough investigation of the marketplace before he settled on buying the FloLogic System.
“The originality and simplicity of the concept appealed to me,” Hale said, “and I purchased a System for our house.”
“Shortly after completion of our home,” Hale said, “the water heater sprung a leak because of an improperly installed expansion tank. A copper joint broke in the middle of the night and the water started flowing. Because it occurred while we were asleep, we were unaware of any problem until the next morning when there wasn't any water available.”
Dr. Hale noted that he was initially unsure if the cost of the valve would pay for itself. “The investment that I was initially unsure of was returned in multiples because FloLogic stepped in as designed to stop the water flow, minimizing the damage to some wet carpet.”
“Without it,” Hale said, “we would have awoken to a flooded home with multiple inches of water.”
The valve works equally well in both homes and commercial buildings. B. Seidel, a property manager with American Property Group, in Sarasota, Fl, said, “I have been a FloLogic customer for four years or so now. I was introduced to them from my insurer, AIG, who suggested that I use them on the properties they insure for me. I can tell you that the System is sent from heaven and only wish that it was introduced to us earlier.”
Seidel, like many property managers, had experienced loss associated with water leaks. He described an event in one property that had a 75-gallon water heater that had begun to leak from the overflow valve.
“The damage would have been enormous,” said Seidel, “if the FloLogic had not shut the water supply off, saving us tens of thousands of dollars and a world of trouble since the entire basement would have had 10 feet of water in it by the time we would have discovered the leak.”
“We now have the FloLogic valve installed on all of our properties,” he noted.
“Our primary market for the FloLogic System consists of over 128 million existing residences, of which single-family units account for 86.2 million," said DeSmet.
De Smet added that property damage resulting from plumbing leaks accounts for over $7B in homeowner insurance claims each year. A typical single family home uses 69.3 gal of water per person per day of which 13.8% is attributed to plumbing leaks a statistic confirmed by the EPA.
“We know that the FloLogic System is saving homeowners and landlords thousands of dollars,” and our mission is to make our product universally available at a very economical cost,” he added.
